About Vintage Gear

Vintage Gear is the curated used and vintage instrument arm of Gear Music, Oakville's independent music store since 1996. What you see here isn't a marketplace algorithm — it's a collection assembled by people who play, repair, and obsess over instruments for a living.

Every instrument on Vintage Gear has been personally inspected by one of our staff before it goes up. We know what it is, we know what condition it's in, and we know whether it's worth your money. If something doesn't meet the bar, it doesn't get listed. Simple as that.

A Real Store. Real People.

We're at 324 Kerr Street in Oakville — not a warehouse, not a fulfillment centre. Dave Goodyear opened Gear Music in 1996 after years in the industry, and nearly thirty years later the store is still where it started: a neighborhood shop where the staff actually knows the gear.

When you buy from Vintage Gear, you're buying from the same people who will pick up the phone when you call, answer when you email, and be behind the counter if you walk in. That's the part that doesn't scale, and we like it that way.

How We Select

Every used instrument comes through the store physically. Staff check playability, electronics, hardware, and finish. We price based on honest assessment — not wishful thinking. Vintage pieces get the extra time they deserve: provenance, originality, and condition notes are part of the listing, not an afterthought.

Our staff bring real playing experience to this: a working drummer who tours, a session guitarist who's cut records, a multi-instrumentalist who also records and produces, and an owner who's been in rooms with instruments for thirty-five years. When they flag something as a find, it usually is.

The People Behind the Picks

Each staff member maintains their own picks — instruments they've personally selected and stand behind. Browse by name to see what they're excited about right now, or explore the full inventory in the shop.
